5 out of 5 stars The first one that will last!   August 3, 2010

Without a doubt, this is the one you want for safety & longevity and even price! I've tried just about everything else out there and none lasted me more than 2 years, some no more than 2 times of use! I hammer in a lot of metal pickets in my on going battle with wild burros over my citrus trees. The wood handled ones end up busting off, the fiberglass handled ones come off... pretty spooky (annoying & expensive, too) when 3 to 5 pounds of dense metal goes flying. I wish the local hardware store had carried these, but then they would not have made near as many sales. If you have a need or use for this type of tool, this is the only one you want to get and the only one you'll need to buy. Don't forget safety googles when using. As mentioned by one of the other reviewers, the picture shows too long of a handle but the actual item is better dimensioned for wielding with attitude & control.

The B3-3LB hammer is great and extremely well built. I've been buying 3LB wooden handled hammers from a nationwide bigbox store that has a lifetime warranty on their store brand of tools and have had issues with the handles splintering and shattering in my hand. Difference here? This little hammer is double the price, but built to last a lifetime.

There is one big gripe that I have with my purchase though... The picture here is of the B3-4LB drilling hammer. That hammer is decently longer than the B3-3LB. That wouldn't be a problem if the product listing actually had a length measurement on it, like the B3-4LB listing has. Also, the B3-4LB is less than $5 more.

I sent in feedback on the picture letting them know that it isn't the right one and there is a considerable difference between the two and got a message back saying it was taken care of. That was a few weeks ago and, as of now, it's still the same picture on the listing. I had also messaged Amazon with my gripe about not being able to view a length anywhere, but an incorrect picture and asked if there was something we could work out to mend the issue (would have much rather had the extra inches) and they would not as the model listed was the model shipped. Even if it isn't the model represented in the only picture.

5 out of 5 stars A Hammer for nearly all occasions   January 10, 2007

In 1962 I bought one of these to take camping to hammer all sorts of things including rocks, concrete, asphalt, tent stakes, splitting wedges, large dowels and pins, serious roadside automotive repairs, etc. I've also used it a lot in construction and teardown projects. Recently I bought another for my son-in-law. It is great for all types of construction and home improvement projects. If you put up a stud wall and need to move it a bit, this is the tool. The short handle allows great control and can prevent a number of self-inflicted injuries. It is in-destructable. The handle and integrated head are all steel with some sort of miracle, plastic type material covering the handle and forming a comfortable grip.

Of course, the price is more than double what I paid for it back in 1962, but it should last at least four or five generations--or more. It is case hardened and really can be abused. Don't drop it on your toes--it is 3 lbs. and can smart quite a bit. It also works well for blocking when you or someone else is hammering or pounding out something from the other side. There are others on the market but this is the original indestructable, all steel, small sledge hammer. Try one, you won't be sorry. And, be carefull about loaning it out--a well meaning friend just might forget to give it back!
