| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Head is forged of American made, high carbon steel, triple zone heat treated. Both the neck and face are hand ground to a distinctive octagon shape, and the entire head is polished. The octagon-cut, American hickory handle is triple-wedged into the eye wi th wood and steel wedges for 'Sure-Lock' tightness.

Ever lasting Quality July 8, 2003 Kendall Howerton (Oklahoma City, OK USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have used this hammer for over 20 years and it is still the best I have ever found on the market. It has a well balanced head that isn't made a cheap steal as you will find with most hammers now days. The handle and head are as strong today as it was 20 years ago. My two Vaughan 16 oz hammers will be passed on one day to a person that will understand what quality tools are and knows how to take care of them. I have noticed that the these hammers are starting to be hard to find in stores.....my guess is that most people are after a wild looking hammer that absorb shock or have some wild handle that makes you think your holding something that is going to make their tool belt look cool!
Vaughan & Bushnell DO16 February 20, 2002 Russell C. Bartlett (MI United States) There use to be a time when just about all the major hammer manufacturers produced top quality hammers - not any more. This is as close as you'll get to those made back in the 1950's by Plumb, Stanley and Belknap. Stanley should check this one out. Maybe if they went back to serious hammer manufacture instead of fashion and Chinese junk they might be able to compete with this one. I cannot fault this hammer other than maybe the option of a nickel plated finish like the Hart. Overall a solid choice and what's more it's made in the good old U.S. of A.!
